Moate OfficeMoate Solicitors, Fair & Murtagh, are based in Moate which has a population of 3,000 approximately and is situated on the busy M6 Dublin to Galway Road. It is a thriving Midlands town offering lots to see and do.

The town gets its name from the large Motte and Bailey erected by the Normans at the end of the 12th Century during the invasion of Ireland. The local rulers were the O’Melaghlins who erected Moate Castle in 1500. The Castle is the focal point from which the town grew. It is still occupied by a local family and was added to and extended over several centuries. Other points of interest in the town are the Quaker Cemetery established by John Clibborne in 1694, the Motte and Bailey just off the Main Street constructed towards the end of the 12th Century during the Anglo Norman invasion, the Courthouse erected in 1831 and at the rear of the Courthouse was a Remand Prison which now houses a Museum. Also on the Heritage Trial is the Toor Ard Cultural Centre and Theatre and finally Dun na Sí Heritage Centre situated just outside of Moate on the Mount Temple Road which was established in 1985 as a Cultural and Arts Centre for Comhaltas Ceoltoirí Eireann.

Fair & Murtagh, Solicitors, moved to Moate in 1996 when they purchased the Practice of John Griffin & Co. at Main St.  John Griffin still works in Fair & Murtagh at the Moate office.
